Can I move around freely in my home if I have an alarm system?
Easy operation and individual settings let you use your house or flat normally without any limitations. The alarm system is only armed when you want it to be. Even when the system is armed, you can move normally in your rooms if only the “outer shell” is protected. This means that there are special detectors for all places on the outer shell of your house. There are glass break detectors for panes of glass. Doors and windows are secured with contacts. Vibration detectors can be installed in other sensitive positions. The complete outer shell of your house is protected in this way and you can still move around freely inside.
Should I choose a hardwired or wireless security system?
Hardwired and wireless security systems each have advantages and disadvantages. A hardwired system might be the most reliable, but there’s a risk of wires being cut. Hardwired systems involve more labor for installation too.
Wireless systems can be used in more places. Cellular signals used by wireless security systems are more powerful than those used on cell phones, but a poor signal and electromagnetic interference are still possibilities.
What is meant by a “zone”?
A “zone” is a detection unit that is monitored by the system; this could be e.g. a movement sensor or a magnetic contact.
Who should be listed on the Emergency Callout List, and how many names should I provide?
We prefer a list of three people who have access to your home or business. If you don’t have three names, give us what you have. Those listed should have a key and alarm code to your property.
Will the burglar alarm still work when there is no power?
Yes, but this is only the case when your burglar alarm has a battery backup. The battery backup should enable the alarm to operate for a few hours, which ensures your home is protected.
Can the central monitoring station shut off my alarm system from their location?
No! Generally, the Central Monitoring Station has no control over your alarm system. It can be “armed” and “disarmed” only from your premises by an authorized user.
Can I control my system with my smartphone?
Yes, there are options available that allow you to remotely access your alarm system.
I don’t have a landline. Can I still get a system?
Typically, a security system without a landline uses cellular technology to communicate with the security company’s monitoring center. A landline security system uses your home telephone line to reach the monitoring center.
What are the primary benefits of GSM radio monitoring?
Reliability: With GSM radio technology, your system is much more secure than one using a landline. A cellular-based solution eliminates the threats from power outages or severed phone lines.
